The commitment and choice of a wooden house and home
The construction or purchase of a house and home is ultimately
important. The financial commitment is often one of the largest
we may make in our lifetime.
The choice of a house and home needs therefore to be made with
care and consideration of a number of criteria.
It is a place where we will live and dream, bring up a family, create
memories and express our own personality via its style and environment.
Without question, it needs to be solidly constructed with quality materials to
ensure durability and peace of mind.
The harmony of a wooden home
In a world where the pace of life
is faster every day, where we have less time for finding our
roots in nature and outdoor living, a wooden house allows us
to feel at ease and breath in an ecologically friendly environment
that brings us back to earth with a general feeling of well-being.
For these reasons and many more, wooden frame houses are becoming
more widely sought after. The solution to modern living is a harmonious,
durable, ecological home where we can express ourselves and feel
at home with nature.
Design limits of timber constructions
Wooden constructions enjoy (almost) limitless possibilities in style
and integrate perfectly into any region, according to any climate
and types of terrain; large windows and openings are possible; contemporary
or traditional shapes and forms are limitless; innumerable exterior
finishing surfaces are possible from wood cladding, coloured cladding
to maintenance free rendered finishes.
Construction Materials
All wood used in our structural frames are Douglas Fir, Oak, Chestnut
and Larch generally of French origin.
The wood framework is made from Spruce (imported from Scandinavia
and Germany) and is treated to level 4 by 'autoclave' (treatment
to the heart of the wood with insecticide and fungicide.)
All materials used are conform with French Building regulations
(DTU français.)
All windows and doors are of course double glazed and conform with
French regulations.
Exterior finishing
For certain constructions Bois d'Arbre Construction has chosen to
offer a less frequently used exterior finishing. On top of the wood
frames, wood wool boards (Fibralith) are fixed and then rendered.
The rendered finish is more traditional on certain styles of houses
and has the advantage of being totally maintenance free.
Some walls are also covered with contrasting wood cladding in the traditional
tobacco-barn style made of Larch wood which requires no maintenance. A a tinted
varnish is optional according to individual taste and preferences.
